This unit covers the regular operator maintenance required for top or rear handled Chainsaws in workshop and field conditions including starting procedures and pre-work checks. Tree Felling including Small Trees
Maximum recommended guide bar length: 380mm (15”). This unit covers trees whose effective diameter at felling height is between 200mm (8”) and 380mm (15”) (i.e. less than guide bar length). Advanced Tree Felling including Medium Sized to Large Sized Trees
Maximum recommended guide bar length: 380mm (15”). This unit covers trees whose effective diameter at felling height is between 380mm (15”) and 760mm (30”) (i.e. 1-2 times guide bar length) and/or trees whose effective diameter at felling height is over 760mm (30”). The felling technique may include boring through the centre of the sink. NPTC units of competence. CS units 32-33. Five day course. Subject to demand. Price on Application.
 
Basic Tree Climbing Including Climbing Trees And Performing Aerial Tree Rescue
This unit does not involve the use of the Chainsaw, but covers the minimum requirements for a ground person working with a climber in Arboriculture. CS unit 38. Five day course. Subject to demand. Price on Application.
 
Advanced Tree Climbing Including Operating The Chainsaw From A Rope With Harness
Course 1: Maximum recommended guide bar length: 380mm (15”). This unit covers the use of the Chainsaw in the tree to carry out a range of cutting techniques. CS unit 39. Five day course. Subject to demand. Price on Application.
 
Advanced Tree Climbing Including Carrying Out Pruning Operations
Course 2. Maximum recommended guide bar length: 380mm (15”). This unit covers the use of the Chainsaw and other pruning tools working from a rope and harness in conjunction with a ground person in medium sized open and grown trees. CS unit 40. Five day course. Carrying Out Dismantling Operations
This unit covers the use of the Chainsaw and lowing equipment working from a rope and harness in conjunction with a ground person in medium sized open and grown trees. It also includes the use of climbing irons. CS Unit 41. Five day course. Subject to demand. Price on Application.
 
Advanced Pruning And Dismantling
A new five day course covering crown thinning, crown reduction, dismantling and the new rope rigging/zip line techniques leading to units CS40 and CS41. Subject to demand. Price on Application.

Tree Inspections
Covering the purpose of a tree inspection, identifying common tree species using keys and sources of information. The course also contains: identifying common diseases/disorders including sources of information and advice, increasing awareness or stress-related tree problems, appreciate the basic principles of legal controls relating to trees, use technical inspection and tree identification equipment, inspect trees in appropriate situations, use various methods of recording data, prioritise work management in relation to tree inspections, state the principles of report writing. Tree Surveys (BS5837)
Covering describing the differences between tree surveys, inspections and tree evaluations, stating reasons for undertaking tree surveys, design a tree survey form, collect appropriate tree survey data, plot trees accurately on a plan, identify and use tree survey measuring equipment, store and collate tree survey information, draw up a tree survey using the information collected. Safe Use Of Pesticides (PA1)
Foundation Module. A one day course. Covering the safety aspects of Pesticides required by all pesticide operators including legislation, techniques, PPE, storage, mixing methods etc. The PA1 test requires further attendance for an hour at a further session. Price on Application.
Hand Held Applicators (PA6)
A one day course covering the operation, calibration and maintenance of knapsack sprayers. The PA6 Test requires attendance at a further session. Price on Application.

Turf Culture
Sports Area: Marking Out; Winter Pitches
Two day course covering use of metric tapes, establishment of right angles, layout of base construction lines, use of marking equipment, marking out of rugby, football and hockey pitches and accuracy and correction of existing pitches. Price on Application.
Spring Maintenance Of Fine Sports Turf
